Acadia University President's Award

Acadia University has a unique entrepreneurial skills development program that defines entrepreneurship in a manner that ensures applicability within the context of a Liberal Arts university. This approach recognizes that the development and application of entrepreneurial skills, attitude and aptitude exceeds the traditional narrow connotation of business development to include, education, community service, and society generally.

Concept of the President’s Entrepreneur Award

This award recognizes an individual, individuals and/or organization that shows exemplary entrepreneurial leadership in the context embodied in the Acadia definition and tradition.

Acadia’s  definition of Entrepreneurship

  • In the Acadia University context, an entrepreneur is defined as an individual  taking responsibility for the consequences of actions resulting from an informed decision. (Risk Taking) 
  • An entrepreneurial person possesses skill sets that include creativity, innovation, decision making, communication, and action planning.
  • Attitudinally, s/he is focused, motivated, and tenacious with a propensity for change. 
  • Entrepreneurial skills may be manifested in new and existing businesses, government, and society. 
  • The application of entrepreneurial skills usually creates change and betterment.

 Award Criteria

 The annual recipient will be chosen based on the following criteria:

  • Recognized as an entrepreneurial leader in his/her area of expertise or specialization.
  • Demonstrates balanced integration of all facets of entrepreneurship (Business, Social, & Community Entrepreneurship) in the pursuit of their mandate.
  • Has demonstrated support for entrepreneurial education generally, and at Acadia University specifically.
  • Is an alumnus, supporter, advocate, student, faculty, or staff member of Acadia University
