Dean Radon Protection Solutions
The South Shore’s provider of radon testing and mitigation

When working in the field of Construction Administration Technology, Charlie Dean saw first-hand the importance of radon testing and mitigation. Now, the owner and operator of Dean Radon Protection Solutions, Charlie tests for Radon in residential and commercial structures.

Radon, the silent killer, is a radioactive gas which comes from natural decay of uranium that is found in nearly all soils. The radioactive gas can come through cracks and other holes in the foundation and can get trapped inside your home. Radon is the second most frequent cause of lung cancer causing over twenty thousand deaths per year in the United States.

Charlie has been certified through the National Environmental Health Association to test and mitigate radon. Radon detection involves using the ‘E-perm’ system to test client’s homes, businesses and institutions for high levels of radon. The system uses a positively charged teflon disc to detect levels of radon in the air. If high radon levels are detected a simple fan can be installed that will allow the radon gas to escape the structure.

Charlie has faced many challenges with his business since his start up in May 2010. “Educating the public on radon and its harmful effects has been challenging,” said Charlie. But he remains persistent in hopes that the South Shore (Nova Scotia) will become better educated and proactive when it comes to the testing and mitigating radon.
